Dj Billy Lee (Seoul, Korea)
Billy fell in love with tango in 2001. He currently organizes the Philippines Tango Marathon as well as the Korea United Milonga. He DJs on regular basis at Japan Sakura Tango Festival, Philipphine Adicto Tango Marathon, Boracay Tango Encuentro, Taiwan Tango Marathon, Vietnam Saigon Tango Festival, Turkey Cruise Tango Festival, among many other popular tango events. He loves all music and all genres: Golden Age/Traditional, Alternative, and Nuevo/Neo tango music. "Tango is my life, soul, and spirit"
Dj Sabah Chammas (San Diego, CA)
Sabah Chammas (better know as Yak Tut Baba) got addicted to Tango in the late nineties. It started with dancing and grew into being a DJ.
“…Tango music occupies my thoughts and energizes my spirit and I am in constant search for good music. Although I try to vary the music I play and sometimes DJ alternative music, I am heavily influenced by the close embrace style of tango so feel free to call me old fashioned. I live for Golden age music. The emotional impact of the music is what I look for in addition to the complexity.”
Dj Sofia Home (Albuquerque, NM)
IIn 2010, when Sofia took her first tango class, she instantly fell in love with the dance and the music.
Since then, she has aspired to absorb not only the intricacies of the dance, but the beauty of the music.
As a tango DJ, Sofia creates a dancing environment where the music inspires the dancers to establish an emotional connection with both their partners and the music by creating a delicate flow of energy, encouraging a warm embrace, playful movements, and endless possibilities!
Sofia has recently DJ’ed at the Gavito Tango Festival 2022, Phoenix Tango Marathon 2023, and The Albuquerque Tango Festival 2023. She is excited to come back to the LA Summer Tango Marathon for the third year in a row!
Dj Richard Cepeda (Los Angeles, CA)
Originally from Miami, Florida Richard discovered Tango while in college at the University of Florida in 2009. He quickly fell in love with the dance and became obsessed with the music.
He's traveled the globe dancing and studying the art of creating an energetic and intoxicating dance experience. He’s been invited to DJ at milongas in Florida, San Diego, Chicago, Paris and is a regular favorite in LA’s most popular milongas.
Presently Richard (with his wife Emma) are the founders of the LA Tango Accademy, owners of Motivo LA dance studio and are the hosts of a weekly Milonga Arrabal.
Dj Varo Boyajyan (Los Angeles, CA)
Varo has As an avid dancer himself, Varo has a deep appreciation for tango music as a crucial part of the overall milonga experience for each dancer.
As a DJ, Varo strives to create a musical atmosphere that inspires dancers and connects with them on the emotional level.
While DJ-ing, Varo is always connected to the dancers-either by observing the energy and the interactions of the dancefloor, or dancing in the middle of it.
In addition to selecting good tango songs, Varo pays detailed attention to the structure of the playlist.
Varo comprises the tandas and the relationship of tandas to each other in a way to establish a harmonious flow of the energy, and to develop emotional-energetic contrasts with a tasteful climax and rise that resonate within each dancer.
Varo regularly DJ’s at milongas in Los Angeles and Southern Calfornia. He has DJ’d along with Otros Aires and Narcotango.
Varo is also invited to DJ tango at festivals all over the US.
Dj Yelizaveta Nersesova (Los Angeles, CA)
DJ Yelizaveta, aka Meow O’Neva, has only one objective… to party! And what better way to work up a sweat than to dance your heart out to the spicy rhythms of D’Arienzo and the sweet melodies of DiSarli? Yelizaveta has been "pouncing" the dance floor around the world since 2009. Over that time she has developed a ferocious appetite for good music. She is famous for creating a warm and welcoming environment where people feel free to express themselves genuinely and let their inner party animal come out. She loves variety and contrast and focuses on moving the dancer through the full range of their physical and emotional expression. Those attending are well-advised to prepare accordingly, because there will not be much sitting down while DJ Meow is in charge.
Dj Vincent Wong (Los Angeles, CA)
Vincent immersed his life in tango since 2007 in Los Angeles, in late 2009 he started studying the tango music and playing for Practicas as to practice dancing as often as possible for free. He started DJing in milongas in 2011 and Festivals in 2012 and never stop listening and learning from other DJs at every tango festivals/marathons he worked or attended.
Along Vincent’s tango journey he also learned to see dancing as painting a picture matching or fitting with every tango song. So in another word, music he plays in a milonga would represent a large painting gallery which is telling a story as in a book or a movie.
